INTERIORS - HOME OVER EVERYTHING
The whole world has been shaken by a plague called Coronavirus and most of us have spent well over a year in quarantine. For some, including myself, it's been just what I needed, even so, it has been bittersweet for everyone. Luxury may be the last thing on our minds at a time like this, but I believe that it presents an opportunity for us to tap into the finer things in life like never before. Between working with what we already have and intentional purchases, you and I can create an autonomous atmosphere that allows for relaxation, productivity, and peace that surpasses all understanding!
WARM IT UP
Right now, we’re all focused on, and rightfully so, keeping our distance and disinfecting hard surfaces in our homes for safety purposes; meanwhile, it can lend itself to a very sterile atmosphere, void of intimacy and trust. So, I recommend burning a soy candle to invigorate your senses during the day and night. I’ve tried quite a few candle collections, but remained uncommitted until Brown Girl Jane, a wellness brand for women of color, designed home fragrances like Velvet Moon that profess to provide a mental escape to African scenery. In addition, scented incense such as Kush or Cocoa Mango provide the same effect at a lesser price.
LINENS
Spending more time at home means more activity in the bedroom (no pun intended). Your bedroom may serve as your work space and a breakroom at the same time, which can lend itself to double soil. So, taking the time to dress your mattress with brand new linens or washing your old ones will create a sense of renewal that does the body good. For the best sleep, sprinkle your favorite scented powder onto your mattress protector before adding your fitted sheet, which is a trick that I learned from my mother.
PILLOWS
It’s one thing to live in your dream home, but it’s another thing to curate a space within that home that is conducive of supporting your everyday lifestyle and needs. Pillows are typically used aesthetically to provide color contrast and texture to a room, meanwhile, strategically positioning them in living areas can bring warmth and connectivity. Maintain your distance, while placing large pillows to fill in the gaps between you and your family and friends; this will remove the awkwardness that social distancing tends to create while providing the connection we all need.
